President Obama got peace prize today, well its not a new thing in politics to give huge gifts to politicians but today they made us “wooow” when they announced the final winner of the Peace prize. Nobody is happy with this decision because Obama has been in office for less than a year, and why they give it to Presidents and high officials? It is already in the list of their duties to maintain peace and unity among nations. Some years ago they gave it to Kofi Annan (former secretary General of UN) but why just because he was fulfilling his duties. Non deserving winners will ruin the authenticity and popularity of Nobel Foundation one day.
In fact President Obama is not happy with this announcement himself:
President Barack Obama said he doesn’t feel he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, but will accept the award as a “call to action.”
At a news conference outside the White House Friday, Mr. Obama said he was “both surprised and deeply humbled” by the award.
“Let me be clear, I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations,” the president said.
“To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize – men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.
“But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women and all Americans want to build, a world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents.”
I must appericiate him for his honest reply to announcement, unlike our selfish politicans and high official.
I don’t know who make these nominations and when, I have heard that some high ranking universities and scholars send nomination papers of their candidates, actually we don’t have good candidates for Nobel Chemistry, Physics or Maths prizes but we have an excellent person in our country, who really deserve this honor. Today not just in Pakistan, but in the Muslim world, Abdul Sattar Edhi has earned a reputation as being one of the most selfless and honorable human beings today. Under his management Edhi Foundation has set up clinics, maternity homes, mental asylums, homes for the physically handicapped, blood banks, orphanages, adoption centers, mortuaries, shelters for runaway children and battered women, schools, nursing courses and soup kitchens.
A bitter and heart scratching part of every Edhi centre is that there is a carriage outside each one, so that women who cannot afford to keep their children or have had a child out of wedlock and cannot keep it, can simply place their baby in the basket and Edhi Foundation will place it into an orphanage and give them a free education.
Despite his enormous fame and the vast sums of money that passes through his hands, Edhi adheres to a very modest lifestyle. I hope this man will bring Nobel Peace Prize to Pakistan. He is an inspiration for many.
